David Taylor is one of a handful of Australian watercolour artists noted not only for his own outstanding work but also for his contribution to the wider watercolour community and his encouragement and instruction of other artists. He has been teaching and demonstrating watercolour techniques since 1968 enabling many artists to benefit from his remarkable artistic talent and teaching skills.

His creative ability is widely recognised and appreciated and it has won him international recognition and status. His works are included in many public and private collections, not only in his native Australia but also in several countries throughout the world including Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore and South Africa. He is also a regular exhibitor in the Channel Islands.

His many notable distinctions include Artist of the Year, Victorian Artist Society (Bronze Medallion) 1976, 1980 and 1989. He is a Fellow of the Victorian Artists Society, a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute. He received the Distinguished Leadership Award for outstanding services to watercolour and teaching (International Directory of Distinguished Leadership) and the Certificate of Merit for distinguished service to the community.

Born in Melbourne in 1941, he was educated at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and the Melbourne School of Printing and Graphic Arts. He was the first winner (1979) of the Camberwell Rotary Overseas Travel Grant that enabled him to further his studies and expand his experience in London, Europe and North America.

Although he spends much time overseas, his home remains a rural location outside of Melbourne.
